I just watched the second season finale of Battlestar Galactica and !! Great holey moley! I almost blacked out at one point - honestly! I think I was holding my breath.
Genius. I did not expect any of that.
So when Starbuck and her rescue team were pinned down on Caprica, I was convinced someone was going to have to die. And then this little voice in my mind panics, "Don't kill Helo! Don't let it be Helo!" and I was shocked, because I had no idea I even cared about Helo at all.
And then I was convinced that Starbuck would end up back on a Farm, but that didn't happen, and of course, being 99% unspoiled, I had no idea what was in store for me.
Though I was spoiled by TiVo for Laura rigging the election, but oh, how I didn't want her to go through with it. Even though Baltar would win. Because it would kill her and it would kill me. Such a beautiful scene between her and Adama when he takes the evidence to Tigh's involvement to her.
Two big concerns about Baltar. The first being that I wasn't completely sold on him being a mad tyrant, most frequently found lying in the laps of whores. I wouldn't have predicted quite such a Caligulan turn for him - so unconcerned with keeping at least the appearance of a rational and generous man of science.
The second concern: wondering if Baltar has just gone to far as a character. Too far to be anything but a purely evil, mustache-twirling black hat. How many times can you sell out your race for (let's be blunt) pussy, and not just become a caricature of a person?
Where was Zarek at the end, I wonder? Did he step over the line with his proposed puppet President and get disappeared?
That last shot of the machine Cylons marching through the human's sad, scrabbly little encampment was incredible. Can you imagine that moment? They ran and ran and fought and ran. And then, they're conquered. Without a shot fired. Does this make Kara and Anders our Rick and Ilsa?
This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension
And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed
They stopped running. Stopped running. Sounds good when the burdens become too great, but in Watership Down, meant death.
And now, the humans are a baby rabbit and the Cylons, Lenny to a one, don't know the dangerous strength of the love they so proudly bring.
