Maybe it's better this way. I don't know.

I remembered that my brother is dead. I remember being really sad and angry at the time, but I don't remember anything more about him--just that he's dead; I think I have the island and it's stupid nightmare sequence to thank for that. I'm sure he was such a great brother, but I know nothing about him…

You have my condolences. Whatever the intention of this place may be in how and when it chooses to restore memories, I doubt our best interests are in mind.

Yes, that much is definitely true.

Doesn't it bug you that that's the way things are?

It does, but what can we do? The memories are neither selective nor voluntary.

There are people who are trying to resist. We've made progress since I got here, you know.

Shit, dude, that must suck, somebody's death being the only thing you remember about them, especially a brother.

I wonder if it would suck more to remember all the reasons why I love him so much.

Eh, I dunno, somebody being dead doesn't make the good times any less good, you know? I don't know, I haven't remembered any dead people yet. Or siblings, for that matter.

That seems to be the conclusion everyone comes to.

If you do have any siblings, you should know now not to take them for granted.

I'm... sorry to hear your brother is- ... I'm sorry.

Ah, yes? What is it that you want to talk about, Kallen?

That's okay…

Um. Can you tell me what you remember about Japan?

Oh. Japan... It was... A really beautiful country.

... My father was the Prime Minister of Japan. We were living there... When I was 10, Japan was attacked and conquered. My father--

... I'm sorry, but that's everything I know. I hope I helped you a little bit at least.

Thanks.

…I'm Japanese too, Suzaku, and that's why I asked. I don't know if he you've remembered yet, but the people who conquered Japan--Britannia--are not…

They did terrible things to us. The Japanese lived as second class citizens, in ghettos while the Britannians sat around in their mansions. They killed us for sport. I watched dozens of innocent people fall to gunfire in my memories.

I'm sorry, I don't like telling you these things, but I thought you should know.

I'm...sorry about your brother. The island seems to like making us remember bad things more often than good things.

It does, doesn't it?

…You had a--

I mean, you didn't remember anything… really bad, did you?

Uh, er...yeah, but I'm dealing with it.

…Sorry for bringing it up.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. It's never easy when we recover bad memories here. This last event has been hard on everyone...myself included. At any rate, I hope you remember something more about your brother soon.

You… remembered losing your father, right? I'm sorry…

But yeah, people have been pretty down lately. Maybe the next event the island throws at us will be a little more lighthearted.

Yes, I did. And that blasted nightmare made me relive the entire thing. At least the memory itself had a silver lining.

I hope so, too. However, after all the time I've spent here, I've grown distrustful of this place. If anything, one or a group of residents should attempt to hold an event to lift everyone's spirits.

Good point. We can't really rely on the island for anything, can we?

It's almost too bad that the onsen party has come and gone.
