Whew, that's good to know! I think a lot of this just comes from the insecurity and vulnerability that comes with doing personal pieces. But then maybe that's the point. One of my favorite quotes on the subject of art comes from Daniel Benmergui, who makes indie video games. He was talking about the question of whether video games are art, but I think it applies just as much to all art:
"If you don't feel personally exposed [...] you did not make art."
[Also, modified the first paragraph to clarify slightly, as I see where the confusion might have been. :p]
never occurred to me that it was out of place, honestly. Most of my friends who draw have a range from nude studies... then some continue to draw in that form, or anything else they want.
See, you know what's going to happen, right? I make a post about how insecure I am about what I paint, and everyone comes in and tells me, yeah, that's not weird at all. Then I'm going to become all empowered and start flaunting it, like, "Yeah, I paint naked chicks, you got a problem with it?" And then that's going to turn into me eventually just painting full on pornographic erotica and becoming one of those creepy old guys trying to pick up on 18-year-old girls.
Well, probably not.
But to some extent I think my insecurity does contribute to making the art what it is!
