Things didn't magically get better the moment the season changed. And things won't magically get better when the ball drops at midnight.This mess took a long time to develop, and it's going to take a long time for us to undo. I think we'll still be worrying about the pandemic by next December. (And I'm going to get vaccinated as soon as it becomes possible. I had heart surgery in October, and I'm 73 years old.)

Conventionally, Solstice holidays are for a season of hope, and this time, there are good reasons to expect the next year to be better than this one.
