Dance is about creating beauty from the ways the human body can move. Human bodies come in a fantastic range of beautiful skin colors! And their shoes (and costumes and makeup) need to contribute to the beauty of the performance. This entry was also posted at https://acelightning.dreamwidth.org/202557.html. I know I've heard of Howl's Moving Castle - it's an anime thing, isn't it?

It keeps telling me to switch to a different browser, or to turn off my ad-blocker.

My computer doesn't handle Zoom very well - it keeps demanding that I use Google Chrome as my browser, which I hate.

And I have had a lot of doctors appointments and stuff recently, including getting my first Pfizer shot. And my doctors like to have appointments at the crack of noon and stuff.

I am not sure how to feel about the physical gathering, although I'm severely in need of a lot of hugs.

I don't have a smart phone, just a plain flip phone. It doesn't record video. I also don't have an iPad. The various doctors I've been seeing at NYULangone Hospital like to use Zoom for "telemedicine", but my default browser is SeaMonkey (a Mozilla product which uses most of the code from Thunderbird) and nothing works in SeaMonkey any more. I keep getting told that I need to use Chrome or Edge, but I really don't like either one as a browser.

All the strong beautiful dancers deserve dancewear that enhances their natural beauty.

That's certainly an improvement. OTOH, I wonder if it's mostly an indicator of a drastic increase (relative to a very small base) of the number of dark-skinned girls growing up in suburbia ... because the socioeconomic base of how girls get fed into ballet is really narrow. Which would also be an improvement.

There are quite a few people of color in contemporary dance. There are plenty of Japanese- and Chinese-American girls who grew up wanting to be ballerinas. And Native American Women - Maria Tallchief was a major ballet star in the early to middle 20th century, and there are a few rising stars of Native descent in modern ballet. And Buffy Sainte-Marie wanted to grow up to be a ballerina (she wanted to grow up to be a WASP, which is why she took the name "Buffy ( ... )
