Oh gods I feel like a teacher 8O
I've managed to land a gig teaching Spanish to a half dozen home school students once a week. The big thing with that age group is they have really short attention spans. I wouldn't have any one activity that lasts more than ten minutes. Lots of variety and if you can have them be physical that is even better. They are also very literal still so things they can point to or see would be good. For example teaching them the word for feet and shoes then the verb walk. Let them show their feet, shoes and walk around the room while saying the word for walk or march or run.

I agree with lil_1337. Honestly my experience with kids is mostly helping out teachers and playing with nieces. I've found that playing with them helps. Maybe you could bring in some educational toys? Kids can spell out really basic words with letter blocks or such.

Definitely going to try and come up with games/toys to keep things fun. And we get a recess which is a HUGE help for me :)

I wish I could give you advice on keeping kids interested, but I don't have any kids/haven't been around kids that age. One of my LJ friends who is an English teacher in China seems to do a lot of games with her kids. Good luck with it!
I'm glad the writing is going well. It makes me happy when I see authors who seem to be enjoying the creative process. I'm sure all the people who read the entries will appreciate your efforts.
