This is actually for school. Films about a journey of sexual exploration where the protagonist is a dominant female. Go!

The Opposite of Sex? (It's been a while since I saw it, so I may be mis-remembering.)

From what I remember, the Christina Ricci character is the 'bad-girl' of the film though. Although like you, its been a few years since I saw it too :)

I saw the Indie Sex documentary series recently, and you'd think there'd be something mentioned there, but nothing comes to mind... maybe Hard Candy, although it's not really the protagonist's sexual feelings that are being explored (unless there's more to that movie than they revealed).

For something else I haven't yet seen, would Audition count?

How about the miniseries Tipping the Velvet? While the protagonist doesn't really start out as dominant, she ends up much more in charge of her life and her sexuality, and there's a certain uncompromising nature to her character along the way.

Tipping the velvet is quite a good one.

Audition, I have seen it and read the book about a week ago interestingly enough. The reason he is atracted to her in the first place is because she is so meek and submissive, and things do not go well for her...

Hard Candy, she isn't evil, but her sexuality is certainly a threat.

Thinking of Ellen Page movies, Juno sort of fits. She's the protagonist, she's definitely in charge of the situation, she's a fun and sympathetic character... but the movie deals less with the sex and more with the pregnancy resulting from it.

Oh I like Juno for this actually, I mean falling pregnant is often the traditional cinema punishment for girls who err, but its not treated that way in the film :D
