Blu-ray wins format war

Okay, in case you missed it, Blu-Ray has beaten HD-DVD. If you own a PS3, good job. If you got suckered into buying the 360's HD-DVD add-on, too bad. :(

Is that proclamation based on anything other than the recent defection of the one major studio (WB?) from HD-DVD to Blu-Ray?

Hurray! Now only 2 years from now, when they drop the prices of the players and the magic televisions that they require, I will actually buy one!

I'll only get such a system when (1) both the TV and the players reache price pairity with the standard (2) I need a new TV and player, and (3) I can rip and burn the disc on my computer. Needless to say, I don't expect this to happen for years.

I can't really say I give a shit. I've thought since the begining that the whole idea behind next-gen DVD was bullshit. Sure, the picture is a little bit better, if you have an HDTV that's large enough and movies wherein the clarity is necessary. It's bullshit. I'll take my old DVDs that I can bootleg any day of the week over that next gen shit. A high density disk makes sense for data storage and little else.
