Musings on Mycroft's marital status.

I have thoughts about A Scandal in Belgravia, and they have nothing to do with the is it or isn't it sexist argument that everyone is having. I'll leave that to everyone else; I have thoughts about Mycroft to discuss.

Needless to say, spoilers for A Scandal in Belgravia below. )

Hi there - I popped over to read your fic (which I love, btw) and saw this.

There's one more thing that I think you missed - Mycroft's ring isn't on his wedding finger - it's the left hand for wedding rings in the UK (and that picture doesn't seem to be flipped). Which means it might well be a ring with a completely different meaning.

The left is the norm, but it can be worn on either (according to the magic of google). But I did notice that, which I think probably supports 2 or 3.

Oh, indeed - IIRC, Russian Orthodox, among others, use the right hand - but Mycroft's background would argue that any wedding ring would be worn on the left hand.

There's also option 5: it's someone else's wedding ring that Mycroft wears for sentimental reasons.

And option 6: it's not a wedding ring at all - just because it's a heavy plain gold band doesn't mean that there's not a signet or engraving on it somewhere that Mycroft wears for some other reason.
