Too Sweet

It has been an emotional past 4 days. I went up to E. Wenatchee and saw my father and met his new girl friend, she seems nice... my eye appointment (for Lasik eye surgery) didn't go like I had hoped... but I'm not completely inelligible for it, I just need to wait a year. (I love waiting ( Read more... )

Hi Brian,

I thought I'd move the conversation over here.
Firstly, the text colors on your poetry page are readable, don't fret too much about that. I can see why you would want to change it (lighter text or a white backdrop) but for now it serves the purpose. Your poems themselves feel very much like song lyrics. Do you write songs?

Keep me posted about the writing and your decision. My post break-up story is online. It's here: http://www.sfsu.edu/~poetry/narrativity/issue_three/alvarez1.html

As I look at it now, I see many sentences I would change, as well as a few typos. But there it is. Hope you are doing alright. It sounds like you went through some heavy stuff recently.

I really like that story, it's kind of sad but at the same time it made me smile... it's very moving.

I don't write songs, at least not intentionally, I've written a few poems that a friend has turned into songs.

How long ago was it that you wrote this piece? Do you have more like it?

it's an older piece. i can't remember exactly but, let's see, it was post break up so i guess that makes it from 2004. i really don't have much out there online. the few stories i did publish were in printed anthologies. it's hard to write AND make visual art. i wish i was more fluid about it.

i do have more writing though that has never seen any light of day. maybe at some point i'll try to polish those into a collection. or at least finish a couple of them and send them out somewhere. as it is now, i write mostly for myself. that is, i write the stories with the idea that they could be read by others someday, but the actual practice of writing is primarily one of maintaining mental health. writing calms me.
