Conversation I had with a French guy I post this: Ask me five questions about my country or culture. You can ask me about anything. Is every Colombian a drug dealer? Is all the country a jungle? Are all the Colombian women beautiful? Does democracy exist in your country? To remind you: I am Colombian.

OK, I'll reveal my ignorance: Does everyone speak Spanish there, or are there still any Indian languages being spoken? Does everyone have dark hair and dark eyes? Is everyone Catholic? Is it hard to get into universities? Is there a lot of tourism?

1.Does everyone speak Spanish there, or are there still any Indian languages being spoken? The majority of the population speaks Spanish but there are ethnic groups that have their own languages. In San Andres, a island on the Caribbean, the natives speak a really strange mix of French, English, Spanish and African languages. Natives (Indians that is) have their own languages depending on the place they live. I know that some am azonic groups still speak more their language than Spanish or Portuguese and there is a language called Wuayú that is spoken between north Caribean groups that refuse to learn Spanish and only a figure called Palabrero (which is a male, and some of the most powerful women in the communities) knows how to speak with the foreigners ( ... )

Thank you so much for your considered (and non-judgemental!) answers. It's all very interesting to me, particularly since I never really hear much about Colombia in the general media--all we ever hear about is the drugs and cartels and whatnot. Just like with Chicago (where I live here in the States), tourists still to this day associate us with Al Capone and the era of the gangsters. Usually I find it amusing.

Do you mind if I ask how you came to have such excellent English? Are you studying it at university?

I don't hate ignorant people, I feel pity for them. After all every one has the right to be ignorant at some subject, problems come when you are ignorant and you stay that way.

I trully dislike when people spells columbia, it show so litle respect to not even look at the dictionary for the right way to spell it.

funny, someone asked me once if I spoke mexican. *shakes head*
