message to a black boy

i really didn't want to go to work this morning. it's that time of year when the kids start acting totally insane, we have state testing and i have a terrible case of spring fever, but as always i brought my ass in. i was greeted by my student TM who was in my room before i even got there. TM is a trouble maker, one of the kids i constantly have ( Read more... )

Sean Bell has really burnt a significant spot in our brains and awareness. Wake up call i guess..50 shots to ring an alarm..How incredibly sad is that...i can hardly collect the words to describe the emotions the incident causes within me and most people I talk to..It's like a whole urbanational trauma. How old are your boys? And how will you tell em?...Best thing you can do, is staying honest..But won't this truth make them hateful? Aren't you trying to spare them the hatred? There's really no right or wrong in this..this is just awful. just so disgusting..Saddest part is, I'm certain it won't stop anytime soon..Even while we put so much hope in it..

"But won't this truth make them hateful? Aren't you trying to spare them the hatred? "

that's exactly my fear. TM is 14. old enough to have already been exposed to the ugliness that exists in our world but still vulnerable enough where his path will be determined by a few lasting events. sigh. i just hope that this hasn't left him too jaded.

TM sounds likes like the student that school is too easy for him and it bores him, so thats why he slacks. there's so many kids like that and unfortunately they come off as deliquents (sp?)

these days and even before, unfortunately black parents are going to have to raise their black sons about the unfortunate ignorance and truth with the police and need to learn how to protect themselves. teach them what to do and what NOT to do. didnt the black panthers teach the young kids this back in the days? obviously we need this again.

we need something. it's bad enough that adults have to be exposed to treatment like this, but kids? it hurts my heart to even think about it.

damn son, you come back all hard with the heavy shit nawmean? LOL

I wonder if my son is going through the same thing, so smart he grades papers but won't do or turn in work. Scary smart indeed.

I keep telling myself that as he encounters all this bullshit the society will knock his ass with, I will be an apologizing ass. Apologizing for being stupid enough to bring him into this ignorant ass society.

Keep it real with TM if he is of age and understanding, that sometimes, it's bullshit but they do want to help. Since you can't know for certain who you're dealing with (regarding cops) warn him to mind himself if they roll up on him.

Feel like I'm warning a slave not to piss off massa.

lol i haven't had shit to say for the last few weeks but this just weighed on me heavily.

"Feel like I'm warning a slave not to piss off massa."
unfortunately that's exactly what we have to do. be polite and keep your mouth shut regardless if the cops are wrong. it's sad.
