My texting ~policy~

Oct 18, 2006 22:37

So I've noticed quite a few comments on my posts lately asking if people can add text to my icons. Obviously, I can't stop you from doing it and I'm not going to go psycho bitch on you if you do, I would just really prefer it if you didn't. I purposely do not add text to the majority of my icons because I think that text is the lazy way out and ( Read more... )

Okay. I seriously can't understand your opposition to text -- even though I agree with your assertion that you can tell a story with the other tools at your disposal, text is just another tool at your disposal. But it is your work, and you're entitled to it. I'm sorry I brought it up.

I wasn't trying to bitch at you guys, I was just clearing up why a lot of my icons don't have text. Sorry if I offended you.

Generally speaking icons look better without text, especially emotional icons. THE TEXT IS UNECESSARY AND OFTEN SCREWS WITH THE SPACE IN THE ICON. Blah.

Seriously though, if they don't like your rules then why would they take your icons? People suck dick.

Completely agree with you - textless icons =/= bases. Using textless icons as bases just implies that something textless is worthless and can't have taken you very long, or is incomplete.

I have no aversion to text. But less is certainly more. I love "poker slut." :D

Personally, I don't like it when text is added to an icon. It's rare that I find one that has text. I think it distracts from the image itself. (And yet, I have several icons with text in this account I'm posting from right now. Go figure.)

Also, I roleplay quite a bit, and I have about a dozen icons with text among a good thirty fictional accounts. That's a very few.

You make lovely icons. Keep up the good work.

A lot of the icons I use in my personal journal have text as well. There are very many icons out there that use text well, I just don't like how some people think that icons HAVE to have text in order to be complete.

Thank you. ♥

All I'm asking is that people don't add shit to my icons. I'm not going to go on a warpath and hunt down everyone that decides to do it anyway, I'm just asking politely that people don't do it.

This post was more for explaining WHY I don't use text on a lot of my icons, and if it's your opinion that adding something to a graphic (which I do to ALL of mine) isn't really a graphic, don't use my icons. I don't think I need text to make my graphics original, but that's clearly not your view.
