People don't change...

Well, I turned my laptop on today for the first time since my trip to Massachusetts. The first thing to pop up on the screen was a journal entry I had been writing on the ride home from Cape Cod. I'm posting it here as I found it when I turned the laptop on. I have no intention of finishing it at this point....

The weekend is all but over at this point. We're about 30 minutes out from Orlando. The trip from the Cape to Providence was quite a bit stressful. We were all panicking because we thought we were running an hour behind. However, after running through the airport to our gate, we realized that the clock in my uncle's car simply had not been properly adjusted for the last time change. Somehow we managed to sit in the car for 1.5 hours without realizing that we weren't actually running an hour late. I guess no one happened to glance at their watches on the way over, I know I didn't. Ah well, it will make for an interesting story to tell to everyone who asks how our flight home was.

We had an awesome family reunion on Cape Cod, MA this weekend. It's always an incredible experience to be surrounded by my dad's family. They're just a huge group of fun loving New Englanders. It's such a stark contrast from my mom's much more serious southern family. It's funny, we'll be shouting and hollering right along with my dad's family yet when we spend time with my mom's family, we're all just as quiet and subdued as them. I really often wonder how much of the difference is literally the North/South divide and how much of it is simply different personalities. I'd really like to look into that...

Sid came down for the reunion again this year, which was great. I really don't get to see Sid nearly enough... hm :(

I think I'll try to re-cap the weekend for my own benefit, feel free to ignore the following.

It all began at 4:30am Friday when my dad woke me up and the stress began (he's a very nervous traveller and was concerned that we be out of the door in Micco at 5am, sharp). My dad drove us up to Melbourne where we picked my up (she stayed in Melbourne the night before to pack since most of her clothes are still up there). From there, I picked up her car and drove us all to the Orlando airport. We arrived with plenty of time to spare and I took a seat in the 'A' boarding group in order to secure my beloved exit-row seat with accompanying legroom. We arrived in Providence at about 11:15am and picked up my dad's uncle's Saab and began the drive to Cape Cod, MA.

When we got to Cape Cod, it was just us, Uncle Al and Aunt Merry at the house. Nine Gables is the name of the house owned by our relatives on Cape Code. They rent it out for most of the tourist season when lot of people come to the Cape to spend their summers. However, they usually save the last weekend of the busy season for our family reunion. Following the reunion, they close the house up for the season. Anyhow, after we arrived we went and picked up a pizza from the local pizza place and brought it back. We went got back, some more folks began to arrive including my new best friend, Noah. Noah is probably the smartest 3 year old I have ever met. He became quite attached to me... he's really made me reconsider my hatred of small children.

Only about half of the folks had arrived by Friday night when we went out to the Bourne Scallop Festival (& Fair). Unortunately, I absolutely hate scallops and they make me nauseous. Despite my severe hatred of Scallops, I only complained for about 60% of the time we were there. My relative from Georgia, Connie, dragged me on to this ferris wheel that looked about as sturdy as a pepsi can. It very well may have been made out of the exact same strength aluminum. However, the view at the top of the Cape Cod Canal made up for the possibility of my untimely death.

After the fair, we went home and I went to sleep... it was only 9:30 but after my 4:30 wake-up call, I was exhausted. However, I was not to get much sleep that evening. My mother and I ended up sharing the 'red room.' Just moments after falling to sleep, I was awoken by my mother's ghastly snoring. After spending an hour listening to her, I decided to scope out the rest of the house to see if there was anywhere else I could crash. However, every room had at least one person asleep in it and I didn't want to disturb anyone by inflating my air mattress. So, I toughed it out and manged to pull of about 3 hours of sleep before the early risers in the kitchen directly below us decided it would be fun to scream the flavors of coffee available as loudly as humanly possible. (Interestingly

That's where I stopped typing on the plane, and I think I will call it quits there.

They just get older,
