Title: My Apology
Genre: Humour
Rating: G
Pairing: Sort of Daniel/Alethe

Alethe stood in the kitchen, humming a song softly under her breath as she worked away at some figures. Normally she would have been working in her office, but she had felt the need to be in the kitchen, possibly because it was closest to the cream puffs that she loved so much. Her quill moved over the paper, her eyes focused on the writing so much so that she didn’t hear the door open and someone step in.

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me

Dan stood in the doorway, leaned up against the frame. His eyes were fixed upon Alethe as she had gotten up and walked over to a cabinet. He glanced her figure over and let out the softest of sighs as he watched her get the cream puffs. A smile curled at his lips as he recognized the song she was humming, “Rebels of the Sacred Heart” by Flogging Molly.

She was perfect.

He’d always known that though, yet he kept it hidden from himself for song long. He’d hid it well with false hate and jealousy, even to the point of almost killing her. It wasn’t his anger at her that had driven him, how could anyone ever be angry with her? No, it was his anger at himself that had prompted his actions. Angry that he knew he had no chance but still wanted her, she was a reminder always.

I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

Yet, he regretted his actions. Oh how he regretted them. He had almost deprived the world of such a beautiful woman, a wonderful minister…he’d been stupid. That’s why he was here, to tell her how stupid he had been. Daniel wanted to make up for his actions against her and hopefully put them in the past. Maybe even move on and become friends, so he hoped. He sighed again, watching as she walked back over to the table, oblivious to him.

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me

Alethe’s head tilted to the head every so slightly as she tried to hear the sounds that Daniel had been unknowingly making. Her eyes moved across the kitchen, being discreet, and she saw him, staring at her. He was smiling at her in a lovesick way. Alethe almost sighed, but stopped herself from doing so, not wanting to appear overly rude to him.

“Kurt’s not here at the moment, he went out shopping.” She said, not looking up from her paper, or so it seemed. She was really watching him. “He went to get stuff for his guitars and I don’t know how long he will be gone.”

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

“That’s alright.” Daniel said in a soft voice as he walked over. The smile was still on his lips as he sat down at the table across from Alethe. He took the quill from her hand, letting his fingers gracefully brush against hers. She was beautiful when surprised, and that was how she was now. He smiled at her, lifting an hand and kissed the back of it, leaving Alethe in a shocked sort of silence.

You're asking me will my love grow
I don't know, I don't know
You stick around now it may show
I don't know, I don't know

“Alethe, I know we haven’t gotten along in the past.” Daniel said after several moments of silence where he had been looking into Alethe’s eyes. He still held her hand. “I’m here to say I’m sorry for always being so…stupid.” He nodded at his choice of words, grinning at her arched eyebrow. “Alethe, I love you and I know you can never feel that way about me, but I had to let you know.” His fingers caressed the back of her hand sweetly as he smiled at her. “I’m seeing Connor, and I’m sure he knows by how much I talk about you.”

Dan sighed, letting her hand go. “I’m here to say I’m sorry really and to ask for your forgiveness and also to see if maybe we can just put everything behind us. We maybe could even be friends.”

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me

She watched him closely, listening to each word he spoke. Alethe knew that he wasn’t lying, she could tell just being reading his thoughts. She leaned back in her chair as she thought over the words he had spoken. “I guess.” She said after a moment, sighing. Actually, she was rather glad about this strange turn of events, she was tired of being angry at him. Now, she could put her anger and resentment aside. “Now, I have a lot of work to do.” She sighed, picking her quill up once again.

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

Dan grinned as he watched her try and write, not knowing that she was having a hard time at it due to his watching her. After a moment she sighed and put her quill down and he just smiled at her. “I have a better idea, Kurt’s been telling me how you aren’t that great a cook. What if I were to teach you?”

Alethe smirked slightly and nodded in agreement as she stood up and walked over to the counters. “It would be much more entertaining than trying to do work.” She laughed softly, now understanding why she felt the need to work in the kitchen today. She waited for Dan to walk over before getting out what they would need to make cookies.

After several moments, Dan had helped Alethe create the perfect batter. “You weren’t doing things too terribly off.” He grinned as he stirred the batter that she had made. “You just put too much water.” She nodded, watching the batter as he stirred, thinking that she now understood how to make the illusive substance at last. “Now, we put it on the sheet and bake it.” Dan rolled out the cookies and placed them on the sheet and put it in the oven to bake for the next half hour.

Alethe sat on the counter while Dan sat close to her on the one across from her, talking until the cookies were done and Kurt came home.
