Yeah, there's a whole fiasco going on with that--didn't realize it until I was compiling my gull article database, and found a couple dealing with that issue. Though I do recall one Discovery Channel program or somesuch talking about this guy who had made a business out of taking his peregrine falcon around to scare away birds from airports. It's a better alternative to killing 'em, but it's mad labor-intensive.

I think it's sad that we have to do that, but it's probably a trade off - human life vs the birds. If they didn't try to keep out the birds, there might be more accidents with the planes. Human life is indefinitely more valuable.

You would think if they can keep toddlers from sticking their fingers into a fan, they could keep birds out of an engine the same way...
