Yeah, there was a lot of that in classic cartoons. For some reason, it never bothered me. Maybe because they were cartoon characters and they never really died.

I saw it less as trying to be funny, and more that it plays things to the ridiculous broad end. Much in cartoons are exaggerated, and that was the shorthand they decided to use back then.

It didn't bother me when I was a relatively stable 11 year old the last time I saw it.

It bothered me as the father of a 3 year old who up 'til then, had never seen an on-screen gun death before (cartoon or otherwise), without me giving any prep time.
