As a former employee of Citi...sapphire_catJune 6 2005, 18:43:51 UTC
...I kinda know what they're talking about. When it happened to BOA, a lot of customers called in, wanting to make certain that there wasn't any activity happening on their accounts (several people had both accounts with us, and with BOA.) When Citi talked to BOA about what was going on, it seems that hardly any customers were being affected, either with fraud or anything else. Most of the bigger cc companies are well protected (and thus their customers are well protected) against fraud. Yes, it still happens, and, yes, whats happened here is worrisome, but, in reality, there won't be many people (if any) affected by this than there would be normally. **shrugs** The sheer fact of how many people are affected by cc fraud (something like one in five cc are normally affected) normally is why I don't have one currently.

My concern wasn't that my CITI accounts would be affected. I'm sure they're good about sniffing out irregular activity pretty quickly.
What I'm concerned with is identity theft. With IT schemes getting more and more elaborate it seems kind of irresponsible to just hand the info to them on a silver platter. You know?
