george's last lj really sparked my interest. upon rethinking the story of adam and eve in the garden, i have decided to look at eve not as someone who brought on the absurdly coined "fall of man", but as a heroine. if the apple represented knowledge, truth, answers, then i would have eaten it toogoing deeper as i usually do, i've begun to question ( Read more... )

Damn...That was awesome. That really just blows the whole thing wide open. I mean...really. I never really looked at it as such an interesting story until as of late. But really, it is one the most important stories told in the bible. Simply because it proposes so many questions and so many theories. And, like you said, it would seem that the pre-supposed innocence that she had was of no help. She obviously did have some sense of right and wrong and hence had to have already possessed some sort of knowledge ( ... )

thank you george. i really appreciate your perspective, especially considering that this post was born out of existential angst and i questioned even posting it.

i think it's interesting what you said about knowledge linking us to god-like abilities. it indeed has. hopefully it will continue to do so. honestly, i would not want humanity 2000 years in the future to have made zero progression through science and knowledge. who would? people are so afraid of change and, like you said, call it "evil" but all one needs to do is think about history. 2000 years ago the same church that claims literal truth in the Bible believed the world to be flat, believed that "up" was where God lived [tell me, where is "up"?], and that diseases such as epilepsy or mental retardation were demons that people possessed [mark 5:8 and 9:25]. this is not because people were simply stupid. people then were not so different from people today. they just didn't know any better! they were making spiritual interpretations for occurrences they couldn't explain ( ... )
