Walkers Crisps World Flavours

May 04, 2010 22:37

As i missed out on doing a taste test on the 'give us a flavour' series last year (Which is probably a good thing, so i hear) im going to do it with these, as some of them do sound pretty interesting, rather than just plain strange.

The first bag i tried was....

German Bratwurst Sausage

When i opened the bag, the smell was pretty strong, but not in a bad way, and it seemed to make everyone around me quite hungry. I must admit, it took a few crisps to get the taste, but it was a bit like a juicy breakfast sausage, quite a heavy, earthy taste, with a deep undertone of meat. Unfortunately, just like the real sausage, after eating it by itself for so long, the taste kind of drags on your buds, leaving you a little fed up with it.

Next on the list was...

American Cheeseburger

Now this one was strange, i didn't think they'd really be able to get the taste of a cheeseburger into a crisp, i went in with the assumption that it would just taste like bbq beef or something similar. The crisp went in and.....nothing, i felt quite let down, it just seemed quite plain, then after about 2 seconds, the flavour hit me it was...McDonalds. But a good McDonalds, without the claggy taste you get in your mouth and with the added bonus that you've only spent around 40p for this unhealthy snack rather than £4. I was amazed at how much it tasted like a McD's cheeseburger that it almost made me want a real one......almost.

Then i tried...

Japanese Teryaki Chicken

Now i'd love to say that this flavour kept providing me with great taste after the first two, unfortunately to me, it was a big let down, the chicken came through pretty nicely, but nothing else, there was no spicey sauce that you would normally get with the actual dish, and if there was, it was pretty bland. It tasted no different to me than the already available roast chicken flavour. They're just lucky i like that flavour.

Score 5/10

And finally for this post was

English Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding

Now when i picked this packet up, i thought it was even less likely to work than the Cheeseburger flavour, man was i wrong. I couldn't believe how well they'd got not one, but 3 flavours into a single crisp, now i know the packet only says two, but what always comes with roast beef and yorkshire pud? Thats right, gravy. That was the first thing that hit me, the gravy and its deep flavour, not long after was the yorkshire pud, i could almost feel it sticking to the roof of my mouth as it was soaked with the gravy, then finally came the beef, quite salty but you could really taste the chewy meat somewhere in that crisp flavour. It would have beaten the US, but after some deliberation, i found that the beef flavour was just a little too salty.

Score 8/10
