I didn't vote on the second one, because we always called it "suntan lotion" regardless of whether it was tanning lotion or not.

This poll is insufficient. :|

Yeah, we often called it "suntan lotion," too. I think we also called it sunscreen and occasionally sunblock.

I definitely don't bat an eye when I hear "sunscreen" or "sunblock," but I rarely use either word myself.

^ This. The second most common thing I heard was sunscreen.

My friends and I had a really long conversation about regionalisms the other night--regional accents, mainly. They tell me that I have a touch of Boston in the way I say "car".

You had no "neither" option for the first question! It's closest to "book," the way I say it. Most people who aren't from New England claim I'm just saying it like "rum," which would match up with your first option, but that's not what it is.

Ditto to everyone else on saying "suntan lotion," but I also say sunblock. :D

I think your pronunciation is the one I was looking for in the first option - I had been processing it as like "rum", but now I say it aloud, yeah, probably. I'm interested because the first person I heard use it was also from Maine, so, regionalism?

It's definitely a New England thing in general, yeah. My other friend who says it is from NH.

Everyone out west thought I had a Boston accent no matter how many times I explained that New England and Boston are very different. I still twitch a little when I hear "rum" for "room," though the dropping of R's seems completely normal.

I also grew up saying "sun tan lotion" (and alternate between "sunscreen" and "sunblock" otherwise).
