HEY GUYS VOL 12 OF YAMI NO MATSUEI CAME OUT THIS MEANS IT MIGHT GET PICKED UP SOMETIME THIS YEAR. So in the spirit of OH GOD WHY, I am going to tell you all my headcanon re: Muraki, so if I get jossed at least I'll get to whine about how I made more sense.
THIS TOTALLY NEEDS A LOT OF WORK. BUT YOU GUYS CAN HELP, RIGHT?
OKAY FIRST FACTS:
* Muraki's mother collected dolls and was pretty insane.
* Muraki is some sort of genetic experiment.
* He comes from a long-line of doctors.
* His grandfather exists and is still alive!
* He found out about his half-brother when he was a teenager.
* Said half-brother was a bastard.
* Ukyou exists! She was hurt at some point in time and Muraki wanted to help her.
* Muraki claims he went insane because he couldn't help people.
* Muraki also claims he went insane because of his energy-sucking power.
I AM MISSING THINGS, but taking those into account I've concluded the following:
Muraki thought himself to be the only child in an old powerful family of doctors. He was totally experimented on, and he has reason to believe Tsuzuki was experimented on too. My bet is that his mom was also an experimented because she also had silver eyes.
In any case, his mom was messed up. She collected dolls, Muraki was one more doll in her collection, and Muraki spent most of his childhood afraid of being 'discarded' I assume Muraki's dad was pretty much a non-entity, and the interest in medicine was thanks to his grandfather. I think Muraki only brings up his dad once and it's only to mention that he sexed some patient and Saki was the product of that. I assume his father is dead, but whether he is or not doesn't really make a difference.
Muraki grew up knowing he'd become a doctor, it was one of those things set in his life since he was very young, he didn't question it nor did he mind it. He probably caught and played with animals when he was a teenager, but it was more out of curiosity than sadism. I don't think he was born evil, he was a very smart kid with sociopathic tendencies and he lacked the guidance to curve them. So if he grabbed and cut up a lizard it wasn't because he wanted to hurt the lizard, he just wanted to see what the lizard was made of, it didn't occur to him that the lizard was in pain and no one ever told him 'OH SO HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEONE STUCK A PENKNIFE IN YOU?' except maybe Oriya, but he didn't meet Oriya until he was older.
Then when he was about 15, his father introduced him to his half brother, Saki, who turned out to be an all-out crazy sadistic bastard. Muraki tried not to hate him at first, canon states that much, but apparently Saki's was fucking crazy and messed with everything forever.
AND THIS IS WHEN I START MAKING ASSUMPTIONS NOT NECESSARILY SUPPORTED BY CANON.
I think by the time Saki came into the picture Muraki was close to a girl named Ukyou, and when Saki found out that Ukyou was close to Muraki, he trauma'd her. I'll go into this again later, but I think it was rape because that would totally explain Muraki raping Hisoka. He simply repeated what he knew Saki had done, or what he thought he'd done. Anyway, UKYOU WAS TRAUMA'D and Muraki tried to kill Saki.
I am not sure about the timeline here because for this to match him losing his eye it would have had to happen when Muraki was between 17 and 20 years old. Regardless! Fighting happened, Muraki lost an eye and Saki ended up in a jar. My guess is that the fight didn't go as Muraki wanted it and he requested his grandfather to preserve the head and spine for him. I have no clue of how that went, but considering that Enma states that Muraki's family is 'meddlesome' and that Muraki can summon demons and perform all sorts of magic, I don't think grampa was surprised.
Once that got settled, Muraki promised trauma'd Ukyou that he'd help her and he wiped her memories of the event, leaving her less trauma'd but with an inexplicable boy phobia. (Boy phobia is canon!) This traumaing may or may not have stunted her growth. (Ukyou looking like a 12 year old boy is canon, though we don't know if her growth was stunted. I just kinda hope for it)
If I am right, Muraki went insane partly because he was unable to protect Ukyou from Saki, and then went insaner at his own inability to fix the problem completely. Which would make true his original statement of 'I went insane because I couldn't help people!' without contradicting 'I went insane because I'm an epic godmode'
Also at some point Muraki went and killed his mother, Muraki speaks about her with HATE AND LOATHING, so him killing her makes perfect sense. I think he did it after the whole issue with Saki, and he may have lost his eye during the struggle. Or before the struggle. I can totally picture Muraki's mom trying to gouge his kid's eye. In any case, I'm pretty sure his mom was Muraki's first kill.
So Muraki went to med school and tried to find ways to help Ukyou. He couldn't, meanwhile he got other patients and he couldn't always help them, so you know, inability to help someone he cares about + inability to help other + people blaming him for this inability + powers + latent insanity = FUN TIMES.
Thus far, we have a sociopath quickly reaching breaking point so one night he went out, found a hooker and killed her. Muraki is something of a misogynist and I think I've said before that he's had sex with women but I'm not sure anymore. I think he might have once, was immediately disgusted, killed the woman and in future encounters he didn't have sex again.
ONE FATED NIGHT Hisoka had the misfortune of witnessing one of these encounters. Seeing himself (or Saki, or both) in the boy, Muraki decided to break him forever, raped him, rearranged his cells to make him be in pain all the time, and mind-wiped him. Then he watched him suffer for the following couple of years like the creep he is. Going back to Ukyou, if Saki raped her, suffered from PTSD because of it and then Muraki erased her memories, it makes sense that he'd try to reproduce the circumstances with Hisoka. Rape him, give him constant pain, and erase his memories of the event. And then he kept tabs on him because he's fucked up like that.
AND NOW YAMI MAKES SENSE. PLZ READ & REVIEW?! I love talking theories with people.
