sorry, i'm quasi-dyslexic, as an other correspondent is always pointing out, but thanks i have amended it now. hope you don't mind me putting you on the death-list (it's really a bit of a jealous compliment on my part actually),

may i also suggest Filipe Fernandez-Armesto and, by association, jose luis sampedro? their anti-secular views, while well written, are beginning to piss me off.

Want to be cheered up? Walk to Marlay, go across the fields into the woods, when you get to the crossroad (the intersection with the statue of a man with a seasonal bowl on his lap) turn right (a few steps before the silvan bridge which you should not cross), walk for a hundred yards (in the direction of the House) until you come to a clearing on your left beside the pond, go to the river-bank and on it is the strangest, most arthritic and awkward goose you will ever see, her names gertrude and she's polite but gruff, if your in a more melancholy frame the swans match,
