The End of an Era

4,195 pages later...

I liked the final book a lot. Was it my favorite? No, that spot still belongs to PoA, although after the movie and another read OotP might be a contender. I cried four times, but not at Fred's death...although it was shattering. I did, however, cry upon reading the dedication.

I have too much to say, so I won't say much of anything. Harry is so brave and I'm really proud of him.Go Ron/Hermione! My favorite scene was probably Ron destroying the Horcrux...as well as Neville (&hearts!!!) standing up to Voldemort.

My question is: how did everyone feel about the Epilogue? Honestly, I really like the way the normal timeline of the book ended, and I didn't think the Epilogue was needed. It seemed like something straight out of a fluffy fanfic. Why do you think Rowling put that part in? Plus, I thought it was somewhat confusing with all the little Potters and Weasleys running around...I didn't know who was what age or who was living with whom. And if I did know, I kept forgetting.

Congrats to those who called the "Harry is a horcrux." I didn't really expect it.

Onto Harry/Ginny: Honestly, I like it. Please DON'T imagine Dan/Bonnie when you think of this pairing, and then maybe you will learn to accept. I don't know how Bonnie--that plain, plain girl--is going to transform into the girl Harry loves in the movie. She needs dramatic make-up and a fierce haircut.

Malfoys: I thought their transformation was very human and very in character.

Snape: Thank you, Snape! Thank you, Rowling! I love him so much and am glad to know that he lived and died nobly.

Lupin, Tonks, and Ted: I feared for their lives the whole way through and was right. Harry's advice really put Lupin in his place. I'm glad my poor, sad werewolf got to see some happiness before he died.

Dumbledore: Still have to hash this one out. Any opinions on his complexity? I didn't really care that much about his past or the Hallows, though...

I'm going to a book chat later today. Maybe I'll add more after that.

thoughts, harry potter
