A bed in a hotel in Bucharest, him sleeping, tangled among pale, pastel sheets as she dressed soundlessly and abandoned him in the early hours of the morning. He had tried that evening-unsuccessfully-to pry answers from her. She would reveal nothing, and she left him angry and defeated. The memory was bittersweet. She thinks she might have imagined it.
