A worthwhile article to read

This is really worth reading. Louise Brealey tweeted the link this morning. It's an article written by Henry Porter about and for his friend, writer Gilbert Adair. Link is to the Guardian.

My dying friend found kindness to be the rule, not the exception

That is an amazing article. As someone who works in the NHS I find it so very moving that someone has seen - and told others so it could be written about - what is basically the fundamental motivation for us - caring with compassion. The people he came across are the sort of people I love to work with and the sort of person I hope *I* am - for at least some of the time.

Thanks for sharing.

The hospice nurses that helped us care for my grandmother were amazing. With their help she was able to stay home at the end of her time, and pass comfortably with family around her. They taught us how to provide the pain management and gave us moral support. I wish everyone could have as gentle a passing.

If only we had health care for everyone over here on this side of the pond. I've been without insurance for about nine months. Hope I can stay healthy as I am for another six years when I'll be eligible for medicare. We're just not as civilized over here. ((G))
