Things I have learned lately.

Just got back from the 3 day dressage show in Santa Fe.  Didn't show Friday.  Rode two tests Saturday.  Rode two tests this morning, packed up my stuff and my horse, drove home (4.5 hours), unloaded my horse, unloaded my stuff, started laundry, attended half a zoom meeting (for small group), and and now drinking my second cup of tea.

Congrats on showing 3rd! That is awesome!

My old trainer used to tell stories about how she would bring her pet MONKEY to shows back in the 70s and everyone else's horses would freak out. So, be grateful it's just dogs? Oh, I just remembered. My current trainer was at a show earlier this year and someone from another barn brought a wallaby. So, sanity has not prevailed in recent decades after all.

Just reading this makes me realize how happy I am to not own a show horse. Cats are much easier. :P

Congrats on showing, even if you did not get the scores you wanted - showing up and riding is a win, imo!

Yes, it's a lot of gear to prepare and bring. I'm prepping and packing for our show right now, actually. Lists, lists, lists!

So over the dogs and the skinny women as well. To be fair, I was a twig until I hit my 30's, but it's great to see differing body types doing this!

Ugh, the heat. Not a fan, not a fan...

Thanks.

ALL THE THINGS! And I pretty much always forget something no matter how careful I am. lol

It was really nice to see that.

Speaking of fans...are you a bring a fan or not bring a fan person?

I'll not be bringing a fan - this show is indoors, so should be comfortable, and we're only there a few hours. I didn't want to overwhelm the little guy. Next year we will try an overnight so we can do the Canadian bred classes as well.

That sounds like a LOT of work, well done you!

(When I was a little kid, books about horses and riding had been popular for girls for some time so I read quite a few of them, and as I recalled they never mentioned all this work and muck! But then, it's like everything else, they don't want to spoil the fantasy for little girls who dreamed of riding :)

You might enjoy the cartoons of Norman Thelwell - he was popular in the postwar period England, and one of his special and deerly loved topics was little girls who rose, and their horses. The cartoons (you can find a lot on google) are still funny :)

Thanks.

Yes, the books never talk about the work.

I love Thelwell!!
