So, I mentioned earlier that my icons have been seriously hotlinked to the point that my photobucket account ran out of bandwidth in the first 2 days of the month

Wow, it kind of makes me scared to post my VF icons now lmao. I wonder if you are the only one because it would be strange if you were. Tons of people made icons with the same pictures.
And that totally sucks with the hotlinking. Sorry babe, this all really sucks. *sadface*
Yeah, that doesn't make any sense of why they would just do it to you. Strange.
Btw, if you didn't already know, it's Kayla (km1901) from twitter. I realized I posted the comment and we weren't friends on here so you probably didn't know it was me lol. Add me? :)
I don't suppose you know any Canadian Lawyers? Because it is illegal for me to tell you anything that could be construed as advice as I am just a student. :-/
I'm studying to go to law school but that doesn't count.
I'm not worried about actual law advice. The letter simply states that I have to remove the offensive material from the internet (even though it was removed 3 days before the message was actually sent...) and livejournal suspended the posts so as to prevent any possible damages.
Basically it was a C&D from vanity fair. I've ceased so I've complied with the terms set out in the e-mail.
I just think it's weird because I got the images after they'd been released on the official site. I didn't post the leaked images. *shrugs*
I guess this lawyer who contacted me had nothing better to do than to troll lion_lamb and pick icon makers at random.
lol, i don't really have a case. they told me to delete the post with the offending images. As the post was deleted 3 days before the message even arrived, there's no offending content to hold against me.
HOLY SHIT omg what is going on with the world? Do you know if anyone else has had this issue? And I don''t think they can do anything with you being Canadian, but I really don't know.
As the act was committed by a Canadian on Canadian soil I *think* they would have to have it referred to the Canadian government in which I'd be tried by the Crown.
Their American copyright laws don't apply to me and would have to defer to international and canadian copyright laws (which, let's face it, aren't much different).
I don't know how accurate that is, but that's what I think needs to happen there.
I'm not getting charged though. They said "remove offending post." Offending post was removed long before letter was sent. What more can I do?
yea I think it would be same thing here not to mention the whole Vanity Fair v Adair7 doesn't sound very legal but I just checked Perez and Lainey posted them as well so it makes NO sense as to why they are stopping people from making icons etc

I'm sorry. I have no idea how being Canadian could affect your case.
