I think technically the book close to me is one of my note books. Think I could get away with using the next closest?

I think that would be allowable. I guess you could argue that it says "book" and the word "note" does not appear anywhere.

Always better to check though.

"It was spacious and well proportioned, but the mats were old and stained and the walls spotted with mildew."

Which strikes me as funny as there's a coffee stain on the book.

umm, "'and you.'" Unless you count quotes as being part of the neighboring sentence, in which case it's. "Collette looked sidelong at him." heehee, though, there could have been some real interesting possibilities with this book... "'man or woman we don't care, give us twins we'll take the pair!" *giggles*
