How different is it from 2?

Not very.

There is an assload of new characters. All characters have more than one special now (and some are freaking crazy awesome). There are new levels. New fighting modes. Uhh.... That's about it. The single player mission mode is better. You actually have to win the matches like they were done in the series. It's nifty.

But yeah.... not really all that different.
