temporary phenomenon?natethewriterJanuary 17 2006, 00:52:07 UTC
It seems like freeganism is meant to be a temporary phenomenon, a symptom of a bloated economy. Straying away from publicity that could expose and help reform the wasteful system is an attempt to prolong this sort of negative behavior by businesses. Divers that shun media attention are acting as selfishly as the businesses who toss usable products.
The media shit people (read: person) pulled in Cincinnati definitely made some dumpsters less accessible and management more vigilant in going after dumpster divers.

Managers kicking people out of the Trader Joes dumpster 3+ hours after closing time, less food, general unhappiness amongst Cincinnati's dumpster divers, etc.
I don't know how showing Fox News people's free food hook-ups was ever filed in the "good ideas" cabinet. I guess it's this ridiculous posturing of freeganism as a moral 'alternative to consumerism' (or even more ridiculous - "living outside capitalism"), instead of being honest about dumpstering being just another way to get food among many, that fosters these illusions about working with the media.

Don- I'm really sad to be wasting my time doing this, but I'm going to respond.
How did this not get back to me when I'm the one you have an issue with? More importantly, where was all the feedback when I called people (including you) before the filming? Do you realize the last two visible activist events I've organized have been attacked by you in a quite unproductive and demoralizing way?
I'm happy that you've formulated an opinion about this. We should take peoples' complaints and opnions and take action on them.
I'm starting to take an interest in anarcho-pimitivism, had a little read of your journal, now I think you're great. I'm adding you and a load of your communities if you don't mind.
