A/R MOL V - Wedding Ring

Aug 08, 2008 09:15

Here is Chapter 1 of my offering for the A/R MOL.  The prompt?  Wedding ring.  (Duh.)  Yeah, I wish I could think of a more creative title for this story, but it's just not coming.  I think "Dinner for Six" used all my creative bandwidth for the month.

Anyway, sorry this isn't finished.  I shall endeavor to finish it by this weekend.  But since today's the deadline, I thought I'd post the first chapter.

The timeline on this story is Season 3, post-New Caprica.  Directly after "Taking a Break from All Your Worries" and before "Crossroads II," meaning this story is AU.

It's rated ... maybe M?  Mostly T, but the first and last chapters could stretch to M.  I think.

WEDDING RING

Chapter 1
The Crime

He lifts her hand above her head and interlaces his fingers with hers as he pushes into her. Their movement is almost reverent as he tightens, then loosens, his fingers, following the rhythm of each stroke. It doesn’t take Laura long to figure out the tempo, and she flexes her fingers with his, two hands directing an ancient beat. With each small squeeze of his hand, Laura feels her love for Bill intensify.

She allows herself the luxury of closing her eyes and taking in this man, taking in these emotions, and then she feels it. Something cold and solid against her finger. She remembers the feeling from her time with Richard. She didn’t like it then, and she doesn’t like it now.

President Adar never took off his wedding ring for fear he’d lose it in a compromising place. So what’s Bill Adama’s excuse? Her entire body tenses as she returns to her self-preserving fight or flight mode. Before Bill can fully register any movement, she’s out of his rack and fumbling with the zipper on the skirt that’s now covering half of the best legs he’s ever had wrapped around him.

“Laura, what’s wrong? Did I do something-”  He stands and walks toward her, holding out his hand.

He’s stopped by a head shake and the half-glare she gives him as she finishes with the last button on her shirt. He’s amazed how she can look at him but fail to make eye contact.

He feels off-balance, but he’s not certain how much is due to his nudity and how much is due to confusion.  He takes a small step towards Laura. “What is it? Are you okay?”

She turns her back and leaves his quarters without a word.
