Why not showcase two people who are trying to balance authority and self-fulfillment?I totally agree here, and I find that in media in general this seems to be written better and more often with a man in the position of authority and the woman his subordinate or not involved in his work at all. Which is what AR kind of morphed into at the end, as you point out. I wish the writer's had had the guts? skill? to work through this with both the man and the woman in power ( ... )

You make a great point about how relationships involving power and authority are usually portrayed in the media. Yes, I too wish the writers had had the vision and maturity to allow two people having an intimate relationship to wield power simultaneously. That dance would have been fascinating had it fully come to fruition ( ... )

Yes, THIS. RDM has mentioned, perhaps jokingly, that he had intended this relationship to start earlier, but DE wouldn't have it. I think it would have been groundbreaking had it been done this way, and fascinating to watch. It would also have added another element to the NC separation and rescue.

I even wonder if the writers saw the vacuum left by her absence as a mechanism to induce the rebellion.I love the point you make here, and I think you might be right. I felt the mutiny episodes were some of the strongest of S4. I felt like I was getting my show back - the intensity and pace was amazing. And I do think Zarek and Gaeta had a point. Suddenly cylons are everywhere, deals are being made and democracy has not been served. I think the beauty of these eps is that you can see both perspectives, even if Zarek took things too far ( ... )
