My head feels empty

Somehow, I've almost graduated.  Basically have graduated, really, I just have to finish this basic history course that I'm doing now.  The thing is that I haven't really thought about what to do next all that deeply.  Always I freak out when having to start something new.  I don't really like job hunting, and I don't have a good idea of what I'm ( Read more... )

I have a friend who is a translator for CAPCOM. She's worked on the Phoenix Wright series of games. For something like that, though, you've really got to be dedicated to what you do! I would love to be a translator for one, but alas, there are too many things I'd love to do and I have to settle on one.

If you'd like me to get in touch with some of my translator friends to see if there are any job opportunities, I would be happy to contact them.

Yes, please, if you could help me get in contact with anyone it would be great.

Didn't you do some of the translation for Kaizoku fansubs? I've been watching raws for a while, but translating anime would be really difficult - sometimes it's hard to hear exactly what they say, and sometimes it's slang that won't show up in any dictionary. Working from written material is much easier.

I had a translation class last semester that made me realize a couple things, one of which is that I can do it and the other is that what you think is hard is easy and what you think is easy is hard. One of the easiest articles was on atherosclerosis - it was for laymen, but I expected difficulty with the vocab and other things and it just wasn't all that bad. The technical terms were the easiest part. The hardest was translating two passages from a short story, which had me banging my head on the wall with the metaphors and just relating the sentences to each other.
