So tonight she pulls out a cig and starts smoking. She told me she was done, and she told me to always tell her no. But she didn't really give a shit, did she? It's funny how much that ruined the night. It was a big group of people, and I went from happy and excited to quiet and short. Most people look at me like and idiot when I complain. ( Read more... )

Smokings bad...mmkay. adamschiller April 20 2006, 22:41:14 UTC
Seriously....it doesn't matter what you tell a smoker about how bad it is for them. It really is psychological.....but since I've been doing echo's I've learned that smoking really "technically speaking" fucks up the heart. As soon as I start scanning a patient I can tell if they smoke or not...and when I ask them if they do...i'm 99% right. That sucks man.

Well....at the time of the post I was pretty pissed, and I'm a lot calmer now. OK. When we first met, she didn't smoke. Then one day out with her friends she started...and I'm like 'dammit'. I told her I wouldn't date her if she smoked, so she stopped. Things would get stressful and I'd sometimes let her. But last month I talked her out of it at one point, and she told me to always do that. But she didn't listen to me last ngiht.

She apologized pretty sincerely this morning, so hopefully this will be the end of it. In Brazil everybody smokes like an effin maniac, but Elaine had quit before she came here. But between her crazy host family, missing her own family, and how much different it is to drive on the rodes here, she gets pretty nervous. That was her first this month...but yeah the long term effects could be bad, but there's nothing you can do but quit, and hope it doesn't get bad.
