Hard English is hard.

In the beginning of all my posts I should insert some kind of standard note that says: OMG it's been so long since I last posted but I've been busy and besides, nothing interesting has happened. Oh, well.

I've been writing my first fic ever. Well, actually it's third I've been writing ever but first I've actually finished. It's H/D, obviously, and ( Read more... )

English is an evil bitch-goddess of a language. And I say that as a native speaker.

I find that reading certain authors really helps with dialogue fluency. Stephen King and Jane Austen are my two favorites. Between the two of them, they cover quite a lot.

I love Jane Austen's dialogue, the flow of it. She can be snappy and florid at the same time which is not an easy task. I don't think I've read anything by King in English, except the Dark Tower -series. Must add some to my to-read list :)

I'd suggest The Shining and Salem's Lot to start. Also his first collections of short stories, Night Shift and Different Seasons. Those are my favorites, anyway. The Stand is good too, but hella long.

Thank you so much! I haven't read any of those. I've been meaning to read The Stand for a while now, there a so many references to it in The Dark Tower but I've read too many gigantic books this winter, I really don't want to start another one. I want nice thin books. With big font size and many pictures, if possible. Maybe I'll start with the short stories.
