i lived a max ride from goodwill and now walking distance from the gap :(

convenience and weather have killed my cyclings and i hate them both for it

That's what I'm afraid of. I'm moving downtown, so my 12 mile commute to work's turning into 1.2 miles.

This is pretty - is this lacing pattern the easier to do than say a 3-cross? Are all the spokes the same size? (that's basically what would make it, " easier")

Yes, all the spokes are the same length (same as 3-cross, just swap 3 pairs/side). The only part that's not as easy as a 3-cross is you'd possibly have to pull out more than one spoke to get at a broken one (depending on position).
