I borrowed an anvil and a crank forge off of Sean's Dad so I could finally try some real blacksmithing. Up until this point I've just been heating up plate steel with a propane torch and hammering it out on the small anvil on the shop vice. It never really lead to anything worth heat treating. The knives I made by stock removal were better but
