See if you've got a local credit union somewhere that you're eligible to join...
I'm with my university's credit union, and they simply rock. There are no fees on anything, and a $50 minimum balance. The only real downside is that not a lot of ATMs are on their network for no-fee transactions (though all the Publix Supermarket ones are).
Whenever I've had a question or problem, I've been able to go in... and see the branch manager right away. They're really tiny and awesome.
