AU: March - What did you dream about last night?
There's something so much more ominous and scary about the woods during a dream. Maybe that's why Bella doesn'tthink twice about stepping in a forest when she's awake unless there's someone in the back of her mind saying to get out as fast as she can. These dreams always happen in the woods.
Bella finds herself running as fast as she can, which given she's not a good runner it's not fast at all. She falls after every few steps then quickly picks herself up and starts running again. Something's after her and she can hear it gaining ground and growling from behind. Turning to look behind her, Bella runs smack into what feels like a tree. Stone still, hard, and... cold. Looking up from the ground, she sees that its no tree.
"Edward!" she exclaims and scrambles back up to her feet, latching onto one of Edward's arms for protection. He just smiles the smallest bit at her then focuses hard on the beast that's now getting closer and closer by the second. "Edward, we need to run!" Bella yells at him, but he's not listening. Instead she's pushed behind him and Edward crouches down into attack mode. Ready and waiting. It's in a split second that she hears a low growl escape from deep inside of him and then he's lunging forward.
There's so much movement that it's hard to figure out what's going on in front of her. Bella jumps back with a scream as Edward's body collides with the beast and then her eyes widen when she realizes exactly who had been chasing her.
"Stop!" she yells as loud as possible, but the vampire and wolf both ignore her. It's Jacob. The beast wasn't a beast at all. It was just Jacob. She'd gone into the woods and of course Edward was there waiting for her. Jake wouldn't want her near Edward and vice versa. Stepping forward, she tries to get their attention, but any closer and she's likely to get hurt herself. "Stop it!" She yells again but it's no use.
Both vampire and wolf are growling at each other and finally they back away and stand just a few feet away from the other, ready to strike in a split second.
"Both of you just stop it!" And, finally, they take their eyes off each other long enough to look at Bella. She's angry and scared at the same time. Only not for herself of course. For either of them killing each other in trying to protect her. Bella looks at Jacob and she just wants to get out of here. With him. Right? Looking between the two of them, she tries to make sense of everything. But she takes one second too long because just as Jake makes a single step in her direction, Edward growls again and they both are focused on each other instead of her.
And as if at the same exact time, they both attack. Bella can see both sets of teeth from each of them.
"Wait!" Crying out, Bella sits up straight in bed, her heart pounding. She looks around to see that instead of a dark forest, she's in her dark room. Breathing hard for a few seconds, Bella falls back onto her mattress and covers her face with her pillow, already know that sleep after that will be impossible.
