So i managed to keep my cold the whole time i was in the states. It seems to have settled comfortably (for it) in my ears now. Which makes teaching classrooms of 30+ munchkins insane, as i can't hear most of them properly. Japanese people like to speak quietly and mumble too, which makes understanding details a real chore right now ( Read more... )

You are a wonderful story teller. You have a great visual narrative that makes you feel you could be there. This particular entry could easily be translated into a web comic or short graphic novel.

Congrats to your family on your brother's wedding. I may have missed an entry, but did you ever find the right gift for them?

Ann Arbor has a certain pull to it. I have never been able to live further than 30 minutes away. Of course, living in Japan does too. However, I realize that actual life in Japan is not as amazing as one imagines before actually doing so. I hope you find peace wherever you choose to stay.

I have the same questions, though not nearly to the same extent as, obviously you've lived abroad a lot longer than I have. But I like most things in my life better here than in the states except that I miss my family a lot and it's hard to settle into semi-permanent family style relationships abroad especially when people are moving all the time, resulting in sometimes overwhelming loneliness. But mostly when something back in the states reminds me to feel lonely.

It's odd to know that you can feel so happy while having such a big gap in your life, but apparently it's totally possible.

also, there is a nastyness floating about that settles and then decides it really likes where it is, so go ahead, try to dislodge it.

Sorry about the second thoughts, hopefully you will make some new freinds. I mean, seriously, who doesn't need a little adania in one's life?

and at least you havn't done something stupid like spend 215k dollars of someone else's money.
