There is better coffee than Starbucks in Seattle. There are also better beans in Omihachiman (Job A) than Starbucks. But in Japan, only SB carries soymilk to put in espresso drinks. So for that, at least, they get my business.
I hadn't heard that they hire very often. Also, I don't have an MA, just a certificate. I know lots of places that take volunteers, not so many that need paid teachers. But there is plenty of private tutoring work, and even subbing at language schools.
