I got a call today about my email to the school in Kyoto saying that i won't be able to accept their offer. As i suspected, they had thought that i had already agreed. Oh, the dangerous subtlety of the Japanese language. I understood that they had agreed to take me, i didn't know that they had assumed that meant that i was certain to accept them.

Yeah I totally identify with the hating to disappoint people. I'm gonna leave my job at Shiseido in the spring and it sucks for them because I'm really good at it, and they'll have a hard time finding another person willing and able to fill the position, and it'll put a lot of stress on my department which is 3 other people, all Japanese and quite nice, and I had led them to believe that I would be staying with them for the long haul
