I have to say, I envy your array of options.... Working in Kyoto or working for a video game company. DAMN.
That said, if you decide to stay in Japan it sounds like you would be overall better off in Kyoto, even if you do have to sacrifice spring break. Moving is a bitch but... sounds like it'd be worth your while. (I imagine the relative lack of social fun is because you have been relatively in the boonies? That makes it understandably hard even if Metro is less than an hour away.)
But I don't know how much of that assessment is my own sheer envy for the prospect of living in Kyoto ^.^;; I'd say think about whether you want to move back to the states.
Are there going to be lots of Genji festivities? If it looks mad awesome I better start saving my pennies .... hehehe
There are a few different websites regarding Genji's 1000th, but it doesn't look like there are that many festivities, exactly. But that doesn't mean i don't want to make my own pilgramages to various sites.
