Dear Doer Of Darkness

Dear Doer of Darkness,

I don't really have much to add to my Kaleidoscope requests, except to say that you can chuck the requests out the window completely if you feel there's a specific story in one of these fandoms that you'd rather tell.

East Is East

I nominated George's first wife as a character, because I'm wildly curious about her. Tell me what her life with George was like before he came to England or how she's affected by events in Kashmir, something that fleshes her out and makes her more than just an excuse for that "first wife always treat second wife like sister" gag.

Speaking of sisters, how awesome are the Khan kids? The whole you-are-my-sibling-and-I-would-fight-to-the-death-to-defend-you-but-if-you-annoy-me-I-will-wrestle-you-to-the-floor-and-fart-in-your-face vibe has me jumping up and down in my seat shouting "EXACTLY! That's what having brothers and sisters is LIKE!" Any fic involving interaction between the kids would make me very happy.

The DV (and the way it's dealt with in the play) bothers me. I'd sooner you write around it or AU it out of existence, but if you do want to tackle it, I'd prefer a proper fix-it fic where George actually realises why he needs to change rather than just stopping because Abdul gets big enough to defend Ella.

Red China Blues

I love this book for giving me an eyewitness account of a period in world history that was noticably absent from my school curriculum. My problem is that the only character whose growth we get to see throughout the book is Jan's. We have all these tantalising little glimpses into the lives of all the people that she meets in college or at the factory or on the farm or as a journalist, but never anything more lasting.

What I would love more than anything is a story from the POV of one of the minor characters showing their encounter with Jan, what happened afterwards and how it affected them.

Zahra's First Term

If you're using this as a pick-up fandom because it's such a quick read, I should probably apologise here for some of the mistakes in it. It's self-published and Sufiyeh Ahmed could really have used a beta reader.

Let's put that aside though, because seriously how fun is this book? I LOVE boarding school stories and this is how Mallory Towers would be if you removed all of Enid Blyton's politically incorrect bullshit and dressed Darryl Rivers in a hijab and a pair of Converse All Stars! All the ingredients of a classic boarding school story are in there: midnight feasts and dares and practical jokes and strict-but-fair headteachers and close female friendships and dealing with snooty bullies and growing up and painfully earnest attempts to PROTECT THE HONOUR OF THE SCHOOL, yo.

Basically I love boarding school stories and if you can write me a fic that shoehorns in every possible boarding school story cliche while remaining true to the particular brand of feminist Islam taught in the Khadija Academy, I am guaranteed to love it.

Thanks; you're the best!
