I'm usually pretty good at answering my phone and you rarely call me anyway, so I'm just gonna assume this wasn't directed at me and move on with my life.
Ya know...I see your point, but I have to point out that a cell phone is for whatever function the owner would like to use it for. It's a personal accessory. It's not an electric jolt between one's eyes to be at the beck and call of another. Personally, there's usually a specific reason I don't answer my cell(s), but it's never to intentionally ignore someone's call (unless it's someone I don't want to talk to, but that would not be you, dear). Here's a question: what would you consider to be a good enough reason to miss a call, and what would you consider a reasonable time for someone to get back to you? Is an apology required if one doesn't conform to your requirements? I suppose this response is unnecessarily long, but even though your "rage" wasn't openly directed at me, I'm feeling a little defensive. Have you considered confronting the individual(s) you're upset with rather than making an angry mass generalization on a public forum? Not everyone can be so inconsiderate. Can they? Are they? I hope not.
Not to gang up, call out, or anything of the like, but I don't consider LJ a "Public forum" personally. The name even states "journal". It may be a journal that is open for your friends to read but, the don't have to. And for a journal that can be as openly offensive as Colby's at times, people should just remove him from their friends list if they don't want to read an angry mass generalization or offensive material. I write the same sort of thing occassionally myself with the excuse that it's my journal and I can write what I want. People could use the reverse excuse for not reading and that would be fine.
I agree with said statements, even though the elaboration may have been a bit much. This post does strike me as centralized towards a specific individual and I share the frustration as there are a few people that I can think of that own a cell phone and consider it an "electronic leash". Sure, you can own a cell phone with the intention of being able to call people when you want, wherever you are and not want anyone to have the availability to call them. However, your point on voice mail is my peeve. I agree that it is courteous to return calls if someone leaves you a message, unless otherwise stated. If they don't leave a message, well, tough shit. But if they do, don't wait a week later to call them. What a way to make someone feel like they don't matter...unless that's your intention. And if it is...FUCK OFF mass people that do this! =)
