It's Election Day, people. You have the perfect excuse to take a two-hour lunch break, so head out and vote.
I think this may be the first year that I vote a straight Democrat ticket. I am officially labeling myself a Theoretical Republican, Practicing Democrat. I believe in smaller government. The Republicans around here believe in smaller government too, except when it comes to womens' rights, or legislating marriage, or invasion of privacy. Where I think government needs to take a hand, such as monitoring large corporations and banks more closely, they want to leave them alone. It also concerns me that the two loudest Republican voices are Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, and the Republican campaign strategies are fearmongering, sensationalism, and outright lying. Glenn Beck seems to have fundamental misunderstanding of the ideas he claims to champion (
for example) and Sarah Palin seems to have a fundamental misunderstanding of just about everything to do with running the government.
Anyway, get out there and vote. Vote Democrat, vote Republican, vote for the guy who wants to build a fence around his state and shoot anyone who comes near. Just vote.
Actually, don't vote for the guy with the Big Fence Plan and the twitchy trigger finger. He scares me.
