Hi! I'm Alex, an (almost) 20 year old college student back home in Washington DC for the summer. Here is my Thursday June 5 in 65 pictures (+1 above the cut)!
Please pardon the few un-rotated pictures in the beginning, Photobucket and I were having some creative differences.
Good morning world! Normally I would hate to wake up so early on a day I'm not working, but I had a good reason!
People with short hair (me) always have fabulous bed head.
SHOWER! There was a pee break first, but that didn't make the cut for 70 pictures.
Immediately post-shower hair is always good too.
Making sure the pearly whites stay that way.
Magically dressed, in my Obama wear of course!
Time check once I'm downstairs for some breakfast before heading over to a friend's house.
I nom a madeline
and some cherries!
I gather a blanket I think we will need for all of our waiting (we don't end up using it).
Say hello to Piper (my only family member to appear in this post)
Pack my bag...
and head to Elizabeth's house!
here she is in all her Obama finery!
And we're off driving in her car to pick up our friend Katie who is coming to the rally with us!
I rock out when "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield comes on the radio
First, however, we stop to procure snacks for our waiting.
And caffeine (of course)! Ice tea for me, scary blue Mountain Dew for Elizabeth.
TIME CHECK!! It's still so early!
Well lookie here, it's Katie and some toast. She owns no Obama wear, which is sad but soon remedied.
And then there was traffic. This is just to give you an idea, but trust me, I am sparing you a lot of pictures of brake lights. Stupid beltway, always trafficky.
Well, what can you do? Might as well recline in the passenger seat and enjoy the sunshine.
Finally out of traffic, God bless you Route 66.
We have arrived!
let the waiting begin! We later learn that we are numbers 100, 101, and 102 in the line (just to give you an idea of how fabulous our spot was).
Obama's littlest supporter, an adorable 14 month old boy who was there with his family.
Time check after we'd been waiting about an hour.
Cute old veteran selling buttons.
They're smiling on the outside, but they are also sweating and crisping on the outside, it just doesn't really come through in this picture.
I attempt to nap, but the pavement is too hot for my bare arms. I couldn't have really slept anyways, it was more for a change of scenery than anything else.
Someone ordered pizza. At first I thought it was a genius plan, but then I realized that hot me and hot pizza would have been a gross combination.
All of our food vocally supported Obama (not shown: Pirate's Booty and pretzels)
Katie's AARP fan supports Obama too
It really was a beautiful (albeit humid) day, but once you've spent 4+ hours outside you're sort of over it.
More people wait in line, back in the parking lot.
We are first in line at our designated security check point. Due to poor planning, however, they open half the security check points long before the other half, so there was swarming and one VERY angry woman who would not stop complaining.
Time we are let in
And we're at our seats!
oooh, pretty banner!
I eat some of Katie's fries while we wait.
And eat some fabulous Italian ice, it was like one of those Rocket popsicles (lemonade, blue raspberry, and cherry flavored)
I cross-contaminate the lemonade flavored one with some of the blue raspberry. Sad face.
Elizabeth has a fabulously purple tongue after our efforts
Local band plays. They were country, which I'm not really in to, so they get a rating of 'eh'.
We get signs!
Governor Tim Kaine comes and talks a bit
Elizabeth waves her sign enthusiastically
The guy we came to see! (plus Gov Kaine and Senator Jim Webb)
Senator Webb introduces Obama
And then he speaks
It was AMAZING!
Waiting in traffic to leave Nissan Pavilion
Time check as we wait
Beautiful end to a wonderful day.
Time check as we get back to Elizabeth's house. Not pictured: dropping Katie back at her house.
I arrive home, chat with my family for a bit (not pictured), and then want to go to bed because I am exhausted. However, I go upstairs to discover that there is an ironing board in my room. I remove it and then go about my business.
Pee. The only one pictured, but not the only time it happened during the day.
Examined sunburnt arm
Brush teeth
Wash face
Final time check. I am so exhausted that I just collapse into bed.
Good night!
