This particular Day In My Life was set up by what happened in this very community on November the 27th, 2006.
On that date..
this appeared on my "friends" pageAnd we started talking. About Banksy and life.
And then we both did something *reallllllly* stupid
and fell in love.
But he lived in Minneapolis, MN, USA
And I live in London, UK
After months of stupidly long e-mails and phone conversations, a billion omens/coincidences (the story of *how* we fell in love is pretty epic in itself, so I won't take up ADIML space!) we knew we had to see each other.
I flew 2800 miles for a week-long tour of the USA/Canada with the full intention of being able to look into his eyes when the tour finished up in Boston
I wasn't able to go to Minneapolis so he flew 1200 miles so we could spend just one day together.
48 photos.
(We met on the evening of the 9th, but for the sake of the DIML rules, we've run together the two days we spent because of lack-of-photos which were taken during the first evening we met.. this kind of thing doesn't follow the logical rules of time anyway..)
I wake up in Stowe. It was where the tour had stopped the night before after driving from Vermont (and the Ben and Jerry's icecream factory!). We were going to be driving to Boston that morning, leaving at 8am, so I got up to get ready and be generally nervous about embarking on the rest of my life...
The essentials..
Fuel
I couldn't believe that the 9th had actually come.. it never really felt real.. Maybe "Good Morning America!" would convince me?
Outside of the Inn in Stowe.. it had been the coldest tour the company had taken on in its history. When we visited Niagra, it was -40C (windchill included). Stowe was really beautiful, even if we did have to walk 3 miles up a massive hill just to see the Von Trapp Family home...
I called
eleventyseven knowing the next time I'd hear his voice, he'd be right there with me.
The trusty van which was going to take me on the 4 hour trip from Stowe to Boston. It took us a while to get the whole thing open because of the cold.
Listening to a significant song.. Regina Spektor's music being a huge influence on bringing us together. I'm actually going to go see her live tomorrow. I wish
eleventyseven could be there too..
I start to get nervous as we get closer to Boston
Where
eleventyseven was going to come and meet me after his plane landed.
Stupid time!! I had a couple of hours to kill before he arrived so tried to get some fresh air and shift my concentration (only the first part worked)
Shopping doesn't really help divert your mind from the fact you're about to see someone you've fallen in love with... although it was a very nice thrift shop
This summed up how my entire body was feeling as I was walking back to the hostel to wait for him. It really was a beautiful day.
--- This is where the story breaks slightly. He turned up. I saw him walking to the hostel and ran to see him.. and ran into this:
Yes. I ran into a locked door at full speed. Talk about a good first impression. Nevertheless, after a couple of hours of "I can't believe you're real...", we went to find some food
The first photo I took of him. My toothbrushing-man was real.
After being together in heart and soul, it was pretty damn awesome to be together physically.
The photo that started it all :
To this:
And now with an added character
......
I'd waited 3 months to do this.
My love loves caffine
The obligatory "American Beauty plastic bag aren't I artistic?" shot
BREAKFAST!!
The guy who served us breakfast. He was lovely. He recommended coffee + caramel to my other half, and chocolate chip cookie to me.. which I quickly made even better by adding Reeses Pieces and peanut butter sauce.
Two things I love about America --> Nik, and Peanut Butter.
Glorious!
We visit an Army Surplus shop and see good old Jack.. *salutes*
I consider my future in the Marines
I remember to thank him for the USAs help in WWII...
"Silly hats only"
I'm going to let
eleventyseven explain this photo in his post...
Which means you'll have to read his one too to find out who on earth we were saying "Thank you" to!
Together in Boston Park
Love can make you do crazy things like walk on water
Totally rejected by the doggy. No love there.
The squirrels liked us a bit more
Possibly because we made an effort to blend in with their crowd?
Eve tries to tempt
If music be the food of love.. then bang some plastic drums.
Banananik-bandana-brilliance
GRAHAME CRACKER THIEF!
There's a reason I called him nIkarus
Where everybody knew our name.. well.. they didn't..
He became an official leaver (graduate) from my old school.
Many gifts were swapped during the day. Again.. i'll let my other half talk about that.
Baked beans. Possibly not the best choice when spending 24 hours-solid with someone, but when in Boston....
Less-fart inducing choice on the part of Nikarus
We went back to the hostel and I said goodbye to everyone whom I'd travelled with for the past week....
As beautiful as Boston's streets were, we needed someone to rest so we wandered to The Beacon Guest House (Boston's best slept secret, apparently)
I would use this photo as the last one for the entire day- but I feel that the "day" ended the next morning when we said goodbye before I drove back to New York (so I could catch a plane to fly home, back here in London)
And even though the day's finished.
It doesn't feel like we're actually apart.
Thank you to this community for existing.. without it, we wouldn't have found each other.
Thank you to the mods who I pray are going to be awesome and let this one particular post bend the rules ever-so-slightly in the name of love.
And Thank you all for sharing our day with us. We wanted so much to share it with you.
- Harriet
****N.B**** (edit on 27/02/07) - Thank you to EVERYONE for such beautiful comments, I'm trying to get round to reading and replying to them all, but I'm actually leaving the country tomorrow morning!
The next time i'll be able to update will be on Sunday. The location?
Nik's apartment.
