American Politics

I'm not one of those who thinks Obama is amazing. But it's quotes like these that make me wonder wtf the Republican Party is thinking:

"Our opponent though is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough that he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin said of Obama, also calling ( Read more... )

not that it will change your mind, but your quote is incomplete
"A review of records of the schools project and interviews with a dozen people who know both men, suggest that Mr. Obama, 47, has played down his contacts with Mr. Ayers, 63. But the two men do not appear to have been close."

It bothers me that someone like Ayres who admittedly bombed government buildings is considered mainstream in Chicago politics. I think that says as much about where Obama came from as anything.

“He’s done a lot of good in this city and nationally,” Mayor Richard M. Daley said in an interview this week, explaining that he has long consulted Mr. Ayers on school issues.

amazing....

In other news, Timothy McVeigh was nice to kids. The only difference between Ayers and McVeigh is Tim did his job better and had better tools.

How is this not relevant?

I must be missing something. How does not appearing to be close equate to "palling around"? I said nothing about Ayres reputation or known actions, they bother me as well. What I was talking about was an apparent gross mis-characterization by Palin.

read the article. Obama and Ayers may not have been close. I am sure Obama does not share the Ayers passion for violence. Palling around is obviously an overstatement, but while Obama was making his way in Chicago politics, he interacted more with Ayers then he has admitted. And thats from the NY Times, aka Obama HQ.

Lets say McVeigh wasnt convicted because of prosecution problems

How you feel if it came out that McCain and Tim McVeigh were associates and served on the same board, or when McCain began his political career that McVeigh hosted a fundraiser?

Whats the difference?

Have you really just done "6 degrees of Obama" to get him connected to McVeigh? That's twice now you have used that example. In any case, I still wouldn't equate your example to McCain and McVeigh "palling around" (which is the phrase I had a problem with, and from what I can see you agree with me there).

The common wisdom is that having gotten battered on the economy
over the last two weeks, this is the McCain campaign's latest
'Hail Mary' pass.

So, yes, seriously.

Now that summer has gone and October has arrived with its rains,
look for the mud to start flying...

The only thing that surprises me is that it hasn't gotten worse yet. I think McCain may have left it too late and I'm not sure how well he knows how to play a short stack.

Obama is pushing back.

"Senator McCain and his operatives are gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They’d rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up. It’s what you do when you’re out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time.

I want you to know that I’m going to keep on talking about the issues that matter - about the economy and health care and education and energy. I’m going to keep on standing up for hard working families. We’re not going to let John McCain distract us from what we need to do to move this country forward."
